Native of Eastern Washington, Reif Erickson returned to university studies at the age of 26 and graduated with honors from Gonzaga University in 1981. Shortly thereafter, the Russian born colorist Sergei Bongart influenced Erickson to paint outdoors. Recognized continually for his talents, Erickson has won awards in numerous competitions throughout his career including: Best of Show, Sierra Pastel Society Membership Show, October 2000; Award of Excellence La Quinta Desert Plein Air competition in Palm Springs, February 2001; the 91st Annual California Art Club Gold Medal Exhibition, May 2001 and award at the PSWC-Pastels USA Exhibition, May-June 2001. Erickson is one of twenty-one pastel artists worldwide honored by the Pastel Society of the West Coast as a Distinguished Pastellist. He is a member of the prestigious California Art Club, a charter member of the Sierra Pastel Society, and past president of the Pastel Society of the West Coast and Past President of the Pastel Society of the West Coast.
