Jack Cassinetto began painting California landscapes early in his career, but did not seriously pursue this subject until 1987. He chose to emulate the distinctive style of the early California Plein Air painters. He has admired and practiced the style of both the “California Impressionists” and the “Tonalists.” Cassinetto is a third generation Sonoran. He recently retired as an Art and English teacher at Sonora High School. He left Sonora to obtain a B.A. in Art and English from Sacramento State University and went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Colorado. Cassinetto does not habitually paint en plein air, however he is often encouraged by fellow artist Charles Waldman.
