Charles Waldman
Since deciding to leave medical practice in order to paint, Dr. Charles Waldman’s paintings reflect a new vitality and a new outlook on the subjects of his paintings. We should not be surprised. Dr. Waldman became a physician for many sincere and deeply held personal reasons. Only equally powerful motivations have encouraged him to make such a momentous change in his career. A painter’s career consists of a variety of steps in progress toward some undefinable goal of creation and personal vision. Much like steps on a ladder these steps are obtained by reaching upward through learning, practice and repetition. The achievement of these goals comes through attaining a personal harmony, a vision of the world as it needs to be depicted. Most of his paintings have been of California scenes: the little towns, paths, fields and mountains that make up the variety of landscape of rural Northern California. Waldman enjoys painting on site and strives to start and finish a painting on location whenever possible. “Every time I paint, the fleeting effects of sunlight are my inspiration.”
